America Prefers Beer Over Other Alcoholic Beverages
Experian Simmons study reveals that beer is the drink of choice of American adults — 61 percent are light or low-calorie beer drinkers, 58 percent prefer imported beers, and 55 percent prefer domestic beers
New York, N.Y., May 11, 2009 — On May 5, 1862, the Mexican army defeated French forces at the Battle of Puebla and gained their independence from France. Today, May 5 is still celebrated, and the festivities usually are accompanied with alcoholic beverages.
Such celebrations provide marketers with an opportunity to promote over-the-border tastes from the alcoholic beverage industry, so Experian® SimmonsSM evaluated its data for a better understanding of Americans’ drinking preferences.
The review revealed that despite the vast choices of alcoholic beverages, beer is still America’s preferred drink. Forty-seven percent of the U.S. adult population reports drinking any kind of beer.
However, since the report is commemorating Cinco de Mayo and tequila hails from Mexico, the report also reviews tequila-related data. One finding is that tequila is preferred more on the West Coast than on the East Coast.
